It's
weird we've hardly gone a full week without sister hone. She's back holding the
Morgan park fort down with hermana Toney and it sounds like they are doing
great!
Sister
Bradley and I have enjoyed doing work for our own area, and we have some great
ideas we are excited to work towards- especially with our members.
At
the top of at list, is getting them to the temple! We has 3 or 4 recent
converts who were working with to get names from their family history to do
work for in the her temple on June 20! Were so excited :)
Steven
and Maria got callings yesterday (our two recent converts)-- they are on the
temple committee and will be working with people on family history- they are
going to do so great!!!
Last
week, the elders from the family ward gave us an investigator named Tee. We
didn't get to visit with him all week but he came to church! He's this 22-year
old black guy with dreads and tatts. He came to church with a tank top with a
girl on it, camo shorts, and some sweet kicks. He made instant friends with
about half the branch on his first Sunday there. He is just so real and genuine
and funny.
And
guess who the last one to get up and bear his testimony was?? Yep. Our friend
Tee. Ha it made the branch president nervous watching him walk up to the stand
on his first day there. (I wish You occult all see the picture in my mind of
this). It was a pretty funny testimony cause he's just so down-to-earth. But
he's also a sincere seeker of truth. He talked about how he's lived on the
south side his whole life, seen a lot of stuff, and people would throw Jesus at
him all the time, like "if you need help, Jesus can save you" and
stuff like that. He said that he just imagined Jesus as a super-hero or
something- he didn't really get what any of that meant. Then he started
noticing that people would say that hey changed their lives because of Jesus.
Well, he wanted to know how to do that- so he's here. It was so awesome, I'm so
grateful he shared :) that's why were here!!!
We
had a great few lessons with some new investigators as well that we are excited
for. INCLUDING one with a girl training to run the 800 in the Olympics in
Brazil! Her PR now is something like a 2:04. Sweet. She's awesome, that was a
great spirit filled lesson!!
We
also had one of the saddest lessons with a less active who we've deactivated in
me past month or two who is choosing to pull away AGAIN just as we were about
to prepare her for our temple trip and a calling. It was so sad.
But
it's been a good and busy week with all sorts of laughs and adventures. We've
been so spoiled with a whole week together in our area.. Now were off to
exchanges with the other sisters! Whooo!
I've
been on a scripture-reading fettish! having a blast asking questions and
finding answers! and really literally DIVING into the scriptures. Im such a
scripture nerd now, I love it. It's so sad to see what people are missing out
on! It's so hard to get people to even read a verse, much less study to find
the answers to questions for themselves. I've had a good ol time doing that
this week. The answers are in the scriptures!!
But
yeah, missionary work is the best. It's an awkward and crazy ride, but I love
it :) this church is SO true. And it is literally through Christ that anything
is possible. I don't think any of is fully comprehend or understand that, but I
realize more and more just HOW MUCH we need Christ and how much he has done for
us.
Love
you!!
Sister
Walton
